The State of the Job Market in Hungary

About 20 years ago, no one anticipated that the cost of labor, coupled with a shortage of talent, would lead companies to relocate from Hungary to Asia. Many highly qualified professionals faced the shock of their careers after getting eliminated from positions they thought were recession-proof.

New Recruitment Trends in Hungary Surprise Many Job Seekers

Recently, Simon&Mayer has been working with clients from financial and telecommunication sectors. These job seekers are struggling from new recruitment trends in Hungary, like chatbot and video interviews. It’s difficult for job seekers to discuss their professional accomplishments and goals with a machine. Then, on top of that, job seekers are expected to fill out invasive, time-consuming personality tests.

What Our Clients Say on New Recruitment Technology

Mark says: I’m simply paralyzed having 1-2 minutes to answer those long questions about my professional development to a video camera.

Zita: First, I talk to a chatbot. Then, I have to fill in a miles-long personality test, all without seeing a real person at the hiring company.

Peter: I’m expected to prepare a sales pitch video to a fancy start-up before knowing anything about their products and services. Huh, that is challenging.

Luckily, we have worked with these three folks on these new challenges. Peter wisely found several candidates’ video pitches on YouTube. After a careful benchmarking of other videos, he made his own, and won the position.

These new technologies have transformed the job search in Hungary. Even if a person is happy in their current role, it would be beneficial to become acquainted with these new recruitment techniques in case a job search is on the horizon.
